Catholic education is an expression of the mission entrusted by Jesus to the church He founded. Through Christian education, the Church seeks to prepare its members to proclaim the Good News and to translate this proclamation into action. Accordingly, Saint Monica School recognizes that its mission is to reach out to all children by sponsoring programs that take into consideration a wide range of academic abilities.
Saint Monica Catholic School, an Archdiocesan, co-educational school, is located in the Northwest section of Miami-Dade County. The school serves the multi-cultural, multi-ethnic populace of the Miami-Dade and Broward area. Saint Monica Catholic School, in accordance with Archdiocesan guidelines, seeks to prepare students for secondary education. These guidelines were developed for inculcating Christian values and attitudes that restore faith through education.
The primary purpose of the school is faith based: to promote the teachings of the Catholic Church and to inculcate in students a deep personal spirituality. As participants in the Church’s mission of sharing the Good News of Jesus, the staff seeks to make students aware of the fact that the true meaning of life is to be found in the love and service of God and one’s fellow man. By word and example, works of justice, charity and experiences of prayer are fostered and affirmed.
Saint Monica Catholic School strives to educate and develop the total person by fostering a child-centered learning atmosphere of discipline and high academic expectations. The academic environment encourages each student to further his or her own capabilities and energies in order to realize his or her potential. Recognizing and respecting each child’s individual growth pace accomplishes this. To that end, the faculty empowers students with spiritual and intellectual knowledge that stimulates creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving. With these attributes, Saint Monica Catholic School creates an environment that instills Christian attitudes and ethical values. Teachers use appropriate motivation and strategies in order to enable students to learn and discover both a joy of learning and a sense of achievement. Moreover, Saint Monica Catholic School’s curriculum design embraces the concept of developmentally appropriate education and evaluation.
The school faculty recognizes the pivotal role that they play as proactive promoters and collaborators with parents in the educational task. Saint Monica Catholic School fosters a strong bond of unity among the staff, parents, and students through mutual sharing and involvement in the affairs of the school. This results in a spirit that enriches all who are involved in the school’s mission as part of the family of the Church founded by Christ.
