The St. Monica 50^th Anniversary Planning Committee held its first exciting meeting on Saturday October 20.  Now we ask you to join us and “put in your 2cents” at our monthly meetings on the 3^rd Saturday of every month at 10:00AM in the Hall.

Committees consist of Advertising, Activities & Entertainment, Decorating, Finance & Fundraising, First 10-Year History, Hospitality, Housing, Logistics, Memory Book & Family Quilt, Music, Photography & Video, Hard Hat Work, Security, and Youth Participation.

El Comité organizador del 50 Aniversario tuvo su primera excitante reunión el pasado sábado 20 de octubre.  Y ahora les pedimos que se nos unan y “pongan sus 2 centavitos” en nuestra próxima reunión mensual que se llevará a cabo cada tercer (3) sábado de mes a las 10:00AM en el salón.

El comité consiste de Anuncios, Actividades & Entretenimientos, Decoración, Finanzas y Recaudación de Fondos, La Historia de los Primeros 10 Años, Hospitalidad, Alojamiento, Logística, Libro de Recuerdos, y un Edredón ó Colcha Familiar, Música, Fotografía y Video, Maestro de Obras, Guardia de Seguridad, y Participación de los Jóvenes.

Greetings in the name of Christ,

At St. Monica Catholic School we have made a conscious effort to become a service-oriented community.  We are currently hosting a drive for donated non-perishable food, clothes, baby items, and first aid supplies to send to the victims in the Dominican Republic of Tropical Storm Noel.  We are also hosting a canned food drive to make Thanksgiving baskets for the needy.  We have concluded our Red Ribbon Week celebration which was culminated by our students “Planting the Promise”.  They planted red tulips which should bloom in the spring to remind them of their promises to be drug free.

   I would also like to thank those members of the parish and school for their participation on Saturday with the safety program alongside our Miami Gardens Police Department.

   I look forward to keeping you informed of upcoming events and working with you!

Reflexión Semanal…

Los Saduceos, los jefes de los sacerdotes, eran los dirigentes del pueblo de Dios.  No creían en cosas espirituales ni en la resurrección, innovaciones funestas, según ellos, que debilitaban el espíritu nacionalista y el poder del aparato central.  Su Biblia se reducía al Pentateuco, los cinco primeros libros del Antiguo Testamento, donde se habla mucho de los sacerdotes y nada de la resurrección. En la lectura de hoy, trataron de usar una historia absurda para ridiculizar la creencia en la resurrección de los muertos.  Al cuestionar a Jesús en público, lo forzaron a ponerse de parte de ellos o a quedar como un tonto aceptando una situación increíble.  La ley a la que se referían se encuentra en Deuteronomio 25, 5-10 y Ruth 3, 9-4, 12, pero  al igual que otras prescripciones legalistas, son absurdas cuando se toman “literalmente”.  Como el propósito fundamental de esta ley era asegurar la continuidad del apellido, Jesús les indica que este argumento es ilógico en la vida celestial, pues allí, al no haber muerte, ¡no hay razón para la procreación!

Jesús también les enseña que aún Moisés creyó en la resurrección pues habló de Abraham, Isaac y Jacob “vivos” delante de Dios.

La lectura de hoy nos presenta tres ideas importante:

Los saduceos trataron de aplicar conceptos humanos al misterio de la resurrección.  Eran incapaces de imaginarse una vida diferente a la terrena.

La resurrección significa, no una supervivencia de “algo de nosotros”, sino una transfiguración de toda nuestra persona.  Y esto se hará por gracia y obra de Dios: vamos a renacer de Dios mismo.

Dios es el Dios de los vivos y la relación de amor que tiene con nosotros no terminará con la muerte corporal.

Para la reflexión personal:

¿Crees en la resurrección? ¿Cómo afecta tu vida esta creencia?  Explica.

¿Has tratado alguna vez de ridiculizar a alguien haciéndole preguntas absurdas en publico?
